What is Optimism?
Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum introduced by the Optimism team based on the single-round interactive Optimistic Rollup technology.
Switching to the Optimism Wallet
Open your ETH wallet then click “Ethereum Mainnet” at the top. Choose “Optimism” in the pop-up to switch to the Optimism Wallet.
Transferring and Receiving Assets
In the Optimism wallet, you can enter the page for transferring and receiving assets by clicking the corresponding token icon. Let’s take ETH as an example.
Receiving Assets
Click “Receive” then you can share your QR code or wallet address on the page to receive assets from others.
Transferring Assets
Click “Transfer” then enter the amount and recipient’s address to transfer.
Note: please make sure you have sufficient ETH in your wallet to pay the gas fee before transferring.
Switching Back to ETH Wallet
Click “Optimism” at the top again to choose “Ethereum Mainnet” in the pop-up.
Experiencing DApps in the Optimism Ecosystem
Open imToken to switch to your Optimism wallet. Click “Ecosystem DApps” on the wallet page to experience various DApps in the Optimism Ecosystem.
Depositing and Withdrawing through the Optimism Gateway
The Optimism Gateway allows you to deposit and withdraw between the Ethereum mainnet and the Optimism network.
Depositing
Open imToken then switch to your ETH wallet. Enter “Optimism Gateway” in the search box on the “Browser” page.
Note: new users of the DApp should first click “CONNECT” - “IMTOKEN WALLET” to connect their wallet.
In the “MAINNET” box, you should choose the token you want to deposit and enter the amount. After checking all the information, click “DEPOSIT” and click it again to pay gas fee.
Withdrawing
Open imToken then switch to your Optimism wallet. Enter “Optimism Gateway” in the search box on the “Browser” page. After that, you can connect your wallet on the page of Optimism Gateway.
Enter the amount you want to withdraw in the “OPTIMISTIC ETHEREUM” box and choose the withdrawal method. In the “Selected preferred bridge” section below, click “Hop Exchange” on the right then you can find “Optimism”. Both of these two options can help you bridge assets from your Optimism wallet to Ethereum one as needed.
- Hop Exchange: you can enjoy a faster withdrawal speed through Hop Exchange which will show the estimated required gas fee on the withdrawal page. However, the number of tokens that can be withdrawn through this option is limited.
- Optimism: it takes a week to withdraw through the Optimism Gateway. After one week, you need to switch to the ETH wallet and open Optimism Gateway to claim your tokens.
After checking all information and choosing the preferred bridge, you can click “WITHDRAW” to pay gas fee. Then your withdrawal is finished.
After successfully withdrawing your assets, please switch back to your ETH wallet to check the received tokens.
